Resolved numerous tubing layout issues in the buildings, piping stress issues on buried natural gas pipe lines, vessel interface issues on skids.

Kinder Morgan - BTT Baseline Tank Terminal Expansion Project, 2015 – 2017

Managed the engineering design, procurement, and scheduling for the KMCT Baseline Tank Terminal (BTT) greenfield expansion project ($700M, 5M bbls storage, 700 kbbls/d transfer).

Lead the project’s engineering & procurement design firm (Wood PLC., formerly Amec Foster Wheeler - Three Streams Division) in the crude blending area, crude transfer booster pumps, three metering modules and five valve manifold modules, facility pipe rack modules, e-house area buildings, surge relief system, U&O, and pipe rack interfaces to the Trans Mountain PipeLine terminal and the KMC Rail Loading facility.

Chaired scheduling and procurement meetings with the construction, commission and procurement teams to align schedules and keep the construction workforce on track with material supply.

Responsible for major equipment packages. Responsible for completion of HAZOPs, pipeline transients and hydraulic analysis, tank heating designs, U&O facilities, and the design interface between BTT and the proposed KMC Trans Mountain Expansion Pipeline project.

Interfaced with numerous third-party storage facility design teams along “Pipeline Alley” in Edmonton, AB, to interconnect BTT with numerous existing brownfield terminal tie-ins.

Murphy Oil – Gas Plants and Well Pad MOC Projects, 2014 – 2015

Managed the preliminary engineering and procurement activities for 6 sustaining capital projects (<$1M ea), the detailed engineering for 5 construction projects (~$100k ea), the detailed engineering of multiple replacement-in-kind gas plant and well pad projects (~$25k ea), and the multidisciplinary completion of several gas plant and process studies.

Managed intermediate Project Engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams in numerous offices (Calgary, Edmonton, Richmond) in the detailed engineering of 5 major sustaining gas plant projects in BC, and 5 MOC gas plant and well pad projects (completing 7 IFC EWPs) in AB.

The facilities were in the Tupper Area of northern BC.

Managed a small, nimble team of engineers & drafters to complete IFC MOC projects, numerous replacement-in-kind and small operations projects for gas gathering areas and processing plants located at Cochrane, Medicine Hat and Stettler, AB.

Our small team consisted of part-time (borrowed) engineers from the process, piping, electrical/comm and mechanical departments. Completed my own document control transmittals, schedules, budgets and project controls reports.

 

 

JACOS - Hangingstone SAGD Expansion Project, 2013 – 2014

Responsible for the modular fabrication of engineered buildings and wellpad injector skids for Japan Canada Oil Sands (JACOS) SAGD Expansion project in Northern Alberta.

Managed two Edmonton-based fabrication contractors in the construction of 6 well pad process buildings, 19 well control skid modules, 6 well pad steam letdown modules, and 4 pipeline drain station modules. Interfaced with the senior wellpad and senior pipeline project engineers to coordinate design changes, and with project controls departments to track progress and budgets.

Coordinated the FEL2 pre-feasibility evaluation and optimization of selected Fischer-Tropsch GTL technology licencors, preferred site plot planning, engineering advancement, cost estimating and further economic modeling and market analysis for the proposed GTL plant in western Canada to produce diesel and naphtha.

Directly responsible for project set-up, project execution and close-out with all engineering and project services staff. Coordinated the schedules, tasks and deliverables of personnel in multiple offices from various technical disciplines and project services. Accountable for manhour, financial budgets, forecasts, and for the development and administration of the change management program and associated contract change management system.

Interfaced with the Engineering Manager to facilitate project completion and communication between all technical personnel and all project services staff. Developed scope, schedule and budgets for technical personnel, ensure that work and progress on the project satisfies the client's expectations and maintain compliance with all project execution procedures associated with the study. Managed personnel and tasks related to IT and network services, financial systems, commercial contracts, procurement, document management, quality control, risk management and project controls. Chaired weekly technical meetings, weekly client meetings and make monthly presentations of progress and project management summaries to the client.

Velocys - Gas To Liquid (GTL) Reactor Development Study, 2011 – 2012

Managed personnel in the development of reactor process operating guidelines, reactor installation guidelines and a mechanical design evaluation of a proprietary micro-channel Fischer-Tropsch (FT) gas to liquids (GTL) cobalt catalyst reactor fabricated in the US for global clients.

Supervised the development of operating guidelines that summarized the process parameters and other critical engineering and safety systems. Coordinated Senior Mechanical Engineers, Structural Engineers and Constructability Specialists from multiple Hatch offices on the development of a reactor installation guideline. Developed the schedule, budgets and execution plan, and led the interface meetings with the Hatch and client teams. Responsible for inter-discipline design review coordination, document management systems and quality control services, health and safety of personnel traveling to the client's design and testing facilities, and for delivery and presentation of the final guideline to Velocys.

Supervised the evaluation of an alternative reactor configuration. Led and coordinated a senior mechanical engineering team from multiple Hatch offices to make alternative design and manufacturing recommendations, to evaluate alternative materials of construction, and to propose testing equipment and procedures for internal reactor components.

Facilitated a major project execution program with Hatch Project Management for a large, multi-contractor design team on the FEL3 basic engineering design of an oil sands mine, ore preparation area, haul roads, ponds and stream relocation near Fort McKay, Alberta.

Developed project delivery strategies and procedures and led the development of the Mine Engineering Execution Plan. Defined the early work scope of work for mine planning execution and facilitated the development of the early works portion of design and mine planning by coordinating multi-discipline teams. Led the creation of all early works issued-for-tender dossiers containing the engineering work packages for procurement of construction bid estimates. Led the development of the construction execution schedule basis for the early works scope. Managed the Hatch construction and procurement representatives in developing the early works contract compensation strategy.

Chaired weekly meetings with the client’s Project Management team, Hatch’s Project Management and Engineering Leads and the sub-contracted geotechnical consultants. Facilitated meetings between teams to progress the technical integration of the civil and geotechnical designs of the mine. Developed and managed the RFI program to remove barriers in design and schedule. Managed the engineering field visit program for Hatch and sub-contracted staff to safely conduct site investigations.

Coordinated interoffice teams (Mississauga, Calgary) of civil engineers and mechanical/furnace technology engineers. Advanced the FEL2/3 basic engineering design of an oil shale mine, proprietary oil shale roasting furnace technologies and extraction plant, and associated oil upgrading facilities proposed in the northwest US.

Initiated the project execution plan, refined manhour estimates and resource plans and produced specific work plans and procedures for Hatch’s multi-office execution of this project. Chaired the client design meetings between Red Leaf and Hatch regarding the constructability, staged construction sequencing and the material handling plan for oil shale in-situ oil extraction capsules.

Directed battery limit interfaces via multi-office execution, and managed the design between the process units engineered in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Houston and India. Coordinated Bantrel multi-discipline design interfaces with 3rd party utilities and pipelines to develop interconnection scopes, tie-ins and schedules. Managed scope, schedule, cost and quality of the interface scope, and led teams to remove issues and achieve all design milestones dates.

Coordinated multi-contractor design work for Shell on various $1M to $50M debottlenecking, retrofit or tie-in projects on the existing base plant and chemical plant. Managed over 50 major planning, design and procurement issues and closeout programs recognized to be in risk of creating schedule and construction delays. Chaired client interface meetings between senior members and discipline leads of the client’s and Bantrel's teams. Chaired construction interface meetings with the client, Bantrel Engineering and Bantrel Construction Company during the concurrent engineering and construction of the utilities and offsite plant section of the Upgrader.

Received Bantrel recognition awards for the resolution of engineer holds lists, construction work package coordination, and for conducting multi-office design and coordination meetings between the client, contractor and design teams. Received a Shell recognition award for coordinating an innovative piping design between multi-contractor engineer teams, which resulted in a $700,000 design saving.

Contributed to the timely completion of HAZOPs, 3D-model reviews, cost and scope trends, constructability reviews, squad checking, quality audits, change management, P&ID reviews, lessons learned and client design reviews. Delegated meeting issues as necessary, and followed-up on commitments to ensure the client’s measurable progress expectations for cost, quality and schedule were met, or exceeded.

Liaised with regional management on new market opportunities.

Designed upgrades to existing petroleum facilities or construction of new facilities, completed capital and construction cost estimates, created design, construction and procurement schedules, and performed constructability reviews for planned work. Completed permit applications and liaised with all provincial and municipal authorities. Completed project planning, standards development and capital estimates. Assisted the UFA Project Manger with maintenance and upgrades to existing retail, commercial and bulk facilities across Alberta.

Innovatively updated the existing engineering design standards to incorporate new materials and technologies that were not utilized in the existing petroleum network. Improved the accuracy of the capital estimating program, and decreased costs in the first year by inviting new equipment vendor and construction contractors.
